MISS UNIVERSE – This is the message of Miss Universe Canada Nova Stevens after receiving offensive racist comments from some Pinoys.

The 69th edition or this year’s Miss Universe will be pushed through amid the pandemic with a new format for the safety of everyone. The pageant’s coronation night will be held in Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on May 16 which is the morning of May 17 in our country. The country’s representative is Iloilo beauty Rabiya Mateo and she’s among the crowd’s favorite.

Previously, she accordingly personally messaged candidates Miss Universe Canada Nova Stevens and Miss Universe Thailand Amanda Obdam to apologize to them following the hateful comments they have received from some Pinoys. Some people have criticized Miss Canada due to her skin calling her names such as “nognog (‘N words’),” “katakot (scary),” “akala ko engkanto (‘I thought she was a ghost’),” “over well done ang chicken, charge sa grill man (‘burnt chicken’),” and “tostadong tostado na nga nasunog pa (‘she is toasted and burned’)”.

And during her Instagram interview with Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova on Thursday, despite the hate speeches she received about her skin color, she has nothing against the Filipinos. Moreover, her post is not something she wrote exclusively for the Pinoys because it just so happened that most comments she received were from them.

She did not deliberately gone too far to look for such comments as she doesn’t understand the language. She explained, “The reason why I posted that photo, specifically, was not because I was going out and targetting the Filipino fans. [It’s] because that was the one that was constantly being sent to me.”

Calling out the Filipinos, she said that didn’t believe that all people are racists and expressed that she has “no hate, whatsoever”. The Canadian beauty also added, “This is all, like, a teaching for all of us, we could all learn from this experience.”
