Malacañang Speaks on COVID-19 Pandemic

Malacañang claimed that the Philippines is doing better compared other nations in the Americas and Europe in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2020, the COVID-19 is still the biggest challenge that many countries and territories across the globe are facing now. The challenge has doubled as several new variants of the coronavirus disease were detected.

More than 200 nations and territories in the world have logged cases of the disease. Millions of people contracted it and many lost their lives to it. The pandemic has greatly affected the people’s way of living.

In the Philippines, everyone is still encouraged to stay at home if not for very essential purposes. The country recently recorded a spike in the COVID-19 cases which called for stricter community quarantine measures.

After placing the whole Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for several days, the said areas are currently under a Modified ECQ.

Currently, the vaccination is ongoing and the vaccines were first administered on the healthcare workers who are the top priorities being the frontliners in the fight against the pandemic. The government is also prioritizing the vaccination of the senior citizens.

Following several days of recording at least 7,000 new cases of COVID-19 daily, the total COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has surpassed the 1-million mark. As to Malacañang, the country is doing better in handling the pandemic compared with other nations in Americas and Europe.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, presidential spokesman Harry Roque cited that the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is lower compared to several other countries including the United States, Spain, France, Turkey, and Germany.

According to Public Health advocate Dr. Tony Leachon, the Philippines must be compared with other countries that serve better points so PH can adapt their best practices. He cited that the match of PH are countries in Southeast Asian region.

Currently, PH is in the process of procuring more COVID-19 vaccines as it is in the pursuit of achieving the herd immunity. The whole country remains under community quarantine measures.
