Here’s what Gloria Diaz said about Rabiya Mateo
Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz has spoken about Rabiya Mateo‘s chance of winning the Miss Universe crown in the 69th edition of the international pageant.
Reports surfaced that Rabiya is leading the polls. This goes to show that many pageant fans are anticipating that she will do well in the pageant.
Pinay beauty queens also believe that the beauty queen from Iloilo City will raise the Philippine flag. Miss Universe 1999 1st runner-up Miriam Quiambao, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida rallied behind Rabiya for her aim to bring the 5th Miss Universe crown for the Philippines.
Just recently, another beauty queen has spoken about Rabiya Mateo‘s Miss Universe journey. During a recent press conference for the movie Mommy Issues, Gloria Diaz was asked to react to the statement from a pageant website saying that the Philippines has the most number of international crowns and placements in pageants.
The veteran actress answered to this with, “Happy! At least, hindi lang tayo sa COVID number one, di ba?”
“Kasi pwedeng tayo na siguro ang pinakamadaming Miss Universe. For how many years? Forty-five years, tapos sunud-sunod na ngayon. Viva La Filipina!” she added.
Based on the article in PEP, it took 42 years before the Miss Universe crown was brought home by a Filipino. Before Pia won in 2015, she succeeded Margie Moran who won in 1973.
Then, Gloria Diaz volunteered to share a piece of her mind about Rabiya being the representative of the Philippines. “Maganda naman si Rabiya talaga,” she said.
When asked if she thinks that the Ilongga beauty queen will win the crown, Gloria answered, “I can never tell, but she is really deserving.” She also stressed that Rabiya is beautiful and she has seen a lot of photos of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020.
“Alangan naman sabihin ko pangit siya, ‘no?” Gloria Diaz quipped.
