Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz reacted to the controversy surrounding the result of the Miss Universe Philippines 2020.
The veteran actress is the first-ever Filipina who was crowned as Miss Universe. Her win decades ago still brings pride to Pinoy pageant fans. Over the years, she has become an epitome of grace and class within the world of pageantry.
Over the years, she has become an important voice when it comes to pageants. Based on the article from PEP, the veteran actress was asked about Rabiya Mateo, the representative from Iloilo City who was hailed as Miss Universe Philippines 2020.
“She’s beautiful! She deserves to win!” Gloria Diaz said as she agreed that Rabiya looks like her daughter Isabelle Daza. She added that she likes Miss Iloilo’s answer during the Q and A.
When asked about the controversy, she said that this has become a normal thing in the competition every year.
“Everbody wants to win. Kaya iyong ibang natalo, sinasabi nila, nadaya sila,” she said. She added that this batch has a lot of beautiful women. However, she stressed that even though Rabiya won, it does not mean that she is the most beautiful.
“It only means na siya ang pinakamaswerte. Kasi, with eleven judges, and six liked her, swerte siya,” the first Pinay Miss Universe said. The veteran actress also encouraged other contestant to join again.
“Iyong mga natalo, that does not mean na hindi sila maganda. If you did not win this time, try again. It you did not win again, try again. Di ba?” Gloria Diaz said.
