As Mercado exited at his vehicle, he was punched by a tanod at the checkpoint before he was punched by other barangay officials. Mercado suffers with a lump on his head, earned bruises, and knee swelling.

They were asked for a certification from the barangay stating that they were COVID-19 negative, according to him. However, no certification has been given by the barangay.

He also said that they are free to visit any barangay in Arayat. According to him, he was challenged to a fistfight by the chief of guards himself. He was said to have been the first to strike before being pursued by the other guards.

The chief of guards admitted this. But he insisted that they only asked for ID and not a certification of a negative COVID-19 test. The barangay apologized for what happened.
