DUQUE – Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III spoke on the protection span of the COVID-19 vaccines.

The world is currently facing the huge challenges set by the COVID-19 pandemic most especially on the healthcare systems of the different countries. Several healthcare systems of different nations were shaken by the pandemic.

Currently, vaccination drives is taking place in almost all nations that recorded cases of the coronavirus disease. Philippines is one of the countries that is vaccinating a part of its citizens now.

In the vaccination ladder, the healthcare workers are the top priorities in the COVID-19 vaccine. PH has received China’s Sinovac vaccine and the AstraZeneca.

Recently, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III spoke on the protection span of the COVID-19 vaccines amid the talks about the booster shots. It is following studies that the protection span does not last for a year.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Health Secretary Duque said the span of protection provided by the COVID-19 vaccines in general is between six (6) to nine (9) months. According to him, they will wait for recommendation from the World Health Organization (WHO) over the booster shots.

According to the DOH Secretary, they are also monitoring the antibody levels of the recipients of the COVID-19 vaccines based on the report. Aside from the healthcare workers, among the other top priorities in the ladder includes the senior citizens and those who are immuno-compromised.

PH is targeting the vaccination of 70 million people. However, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte previously expressed that the COVID-19 vaccines are not enough to fill the needs of the world.
