Majority Of Filipinos Refuse Vaccines Against COVID-19

PULSE ASIA SURVEY – Despite the massive surge in cases, the majority of Filipinos still refuse vaccines against COVID-19.

Recently, the Philippines broke its all-time-high number of COVID-19 cases. Last week, the country saw over 5,000 daily cases. However, it didn’t stop from there. Following the initial spike, the Philippines saw an increase to 7,000 then 8,000.

According to some researchers, the surge could’ve possibly been caused by “mutations of concern” spreading. Additionally, the Philippines also managed to produce its very own COVID-19 variant dubbed as the P.3 strain.

Afterward, the Department of Health recorded 9,838 cases yesterday, almost twice last year’s previous spike. But, even with these concerning numbers Filipinos are still not inclined to get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the latest Pulse Asia survey revealed how only 16% of Filipinos want vaccinations. Still, 23 percent of Filipinos are unsure. On the other hand, a whopping 61% expressed distrust in vaccines.

As per the survey, 84% of those who didn’t want vaccinations cited safety concerns. Likewise, 74% of those undecided also showed concern about the safety and efficacy of the vaccines.

However, the survey also revealed that 94% of Filipinos worry about contracting COVID-19 with only 3% expressing that they are not. But, the remaining 3% expressed uncertainty.

Previously, OCTA research group warned that the Philippines could see a spike of 10,000+ daily COVID-19 cases if the surge continues. Earlier in the year, OCTA also predicted 5,000 or more cases by the end of March. But, due to the surge, they raised their prediction.
