Taal Volcano Produced More Tremor Activity In Past 24 Hours
MORE TREMOR ACTIVITY IN TAAL – For the past 24 hours, Taal Volcano has 91 tremors according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Recently, authorities have evacuated residents near the volcano in fear of another possible eruption. Currently, Taal Volcano is placed under alert level 1 as it continued to show unrest.
Philvolcs reported that each tremor episode had an average duration of 1-5 minutes. Meanwhile, the number had increased from 69 on Wednesday to 91 on Thursday.
Along with this, weak emission of white steam plumes were also recorded. Philvolcs said that these plumes rose up to five meters high and was observed from the main crater. But, this was much lower compared to the plumes on Wednesday which was at 20 meters.
Because of the unrest, Taal Volcano may produce sudden steam-driven phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ashfall. However, it could also produce lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.
As of now, local officials are preparing for further evacuations, especially for those living near the permanent danger zone.
