A report from Inquirer said that Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sub station in Sta. Ana town in the province identified the three as Gilbert Ricolizado, aged 46; Rumolo Agadinay Jr., aged 45; and Sonny Ricolizado, aged 42. They were all residents of Barangay Minanga in Gonzaga.

The three said that the port quarter and rudder of their boat had been damaged. This caused seawater to seep through the boat’s hull.

They immediately sent out a distress call to the nearest PCG unit, which sent a search-and-rescue team.

The PCG towed the distressed fishing boat to San Vicente Port in Sta. Ana for repair after securing the fishermen, based on the report.

Last year, the PCG filed a a case against Vienna Wood, the Hong Kong cargo ship hit a small fishing vessel, Liberty 5. The incident caused 12 fishermen and two passengers to be lost at sea off Occidental Mindoro.

Their initial assessment stated that Vienna Wood didn’t do as much as they could to help save the fishermen.

PCG Commandant Vice-Admiral George Ursabia Jr. said that large ships such as large ships like the Vienna Wood would have functioning radars., rendering it impossible for the cargo ship tp miss the small fishing vessel.
