Manila DRRMO reported that at least three devotees suddenly collapsed during Traslacion 2021 or the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
On Saturday (January 9, 2021), the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Director Arnel Angeles said that three devotees fainted and lost their consciousness during the celebration of the annual religious event.
Angeles said that a lady became dizzy and her blood pressure shoots up after completing her nine-day novena. She fainted along Carlos Palanca Street and received immediate medical care at the Manila Doctors Hospital.
Two other devotees suddenly collapsed but there were no further details or information regarding the incident as of this writing.
The Manila Police District said the number of devotees who were utilizing the two main streets heading to Quiapo Church has already reached to almost half a million during the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Meanwhile, some activities of Traslacion 2021 have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Pahalik” has been removed and replaced with ‘papuri’ or ‘papugay’, which aims to pay tribute to the statue.
