35 Alleged MNLF Members Captured In Rizal – DILG

ALLEGED MNLF MEMBERS – 35 alleged members of the Moro National Liberation Front were arrested in Rizal were arrested by cops and soldiers.

The 35 people were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal paramilitary training, according to a report from GMA News.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said that the suspects were illegally discharging firearms, wearing military uniforms, and violating COVID-19 safety protocols via not wearing face masks, face shields, and disregarding physical distancing.

The joint operation was conducted following reports from officials of Barangay Guinayang in San Mateo that non-locals in the said area had set up camp in the upper portion of the village and were seen “indiscriminately discharging firearms and in a formation in what appeared to be a paramilitary training.”

Retrieved from the suspects were two caliber .45 pistols, ammunition, assorted Army uniforms, five handheld radios, and a jungle knife from the group, the Interior department said. The group was reportedly led by a Lydia Panuelo.

Año added that he has ordered local officials to dismantle the “illegal structures” that were set up by the arrested group.

Calabarzon police chief Police Brigadier General Felipe Natividad said that the alleged group are not fluent in Arabic or any Mindanao language “unlike the real members of the MNLF”.

The joint task force are currently validating their alleged affiliation with the said group.

Natividad also reported that a Deogenes Rodriguez communicated with the group and promised to give P300,000 to each member after their trainingbefore deporting to Mindanao.

They are currently under the custody of the San Mateo Municipal Police Station and will face criminal complaints, based on the report.
