This was confirmed by the bureau’s Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin who said that counter-terrorism unit head Raoul Manguerra died from a gunshot wound in his abdomen past 12 AM, according to a report from SunStar.

Police have reported that Manguerra’s driver rushed him to the Manila Doctor’s Hospital. He was declared dead there.

The assailant behind the murder of Manguerra has not been identified, as of the moment.

Director Eric Distor immediately ordered further investigation to be conducted and have the compound under lockdown.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said that the death of the anti-terrorism unit head is a big loss to the bureau. The victim caused the arrest of several members of terrorist groups like the Abu Sayyaf.

Based on the report, Guevarra added that he will wait for the bureau to finish its investigation before making further statements.

“I’d rather that the NBI make a public statement after they have exhaustively examined all possible angles. Baka tonight may linaw na yan,”
