Iloilo City Under GCQ, Former Mayor Jed Mabilog Makes Controversial Post

President Duterte announces December Quarantine Classification, Iloilo City still under GCQ.

ILOILO CITY – Former Mayor of Iloilo City Jed Mabilog makes controversial comment after President Duterte decided to place city under GCQ.

For the Christmas Holidays for this year, these urban hubs will stay under general community quarantine (GCQ) as announced by President Rodrigo Duterte in his recent televised address for the nation:

  • Metro Manila
  • Batangas
  • Iloilo City
  • Tacloban City
  • Lanao del Sur
  • Iligan
  • Davao City
  • Davao del Norte

This will be effective for the entire month of December as it has been recorded that these areas have recent spike in COVID-19 cases. He based this on the recommendation of coronavirus task force officials to put those areas in GCQ. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be under Modified General Community Quarantine (GCQ) or the most relaxed quarantine rule.

Despite the low number of cases of Iloilo City, it was still placed under GCQ which earned comment from the city’s former mayor, Jed Mabilog. In a controversial post he made, he stated that the president refused to acknowledge the city’s achievements.

Also, he added that this could be the president’s “payback” to him and to the city because he’s always been critical of him on social media. Meanwhile, National Task Force Against COVID-19 Chair Delfin Lorenzana said that the reason why Iloilo being among the GCQ areas is because they have noticed a slight increase of cases in the city and that they are just taking precaution.

In another post, the former mayor’s shady statement stated, “I don’t want to brag cos the achievements speak for itself. But during this time, we were both mayors and it was my second term. Yung iba dyan ilang dekada na, pero hindi nakapasok sa top 40, sa buong mundo ha, kaya bitter.”

Many netizens also wondered why Iloilo is on the list of GCQ areas when the city accordingly have a low number of cases in the past few weeks. Also, the city recorded lesser number of active cases compared to that of Bacolod City.
