State of Calamity Announced by Pres. Duterte in Luzon After Ulysses’ Impacts

DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared a State of Calamity in Luzon following the wrath of typhoon Ulysses.

A lot of areas hit by typhoon Ulysses were also struck by tropical storm Rolly. These areas were just recovering from Rolly when Ulysses brought massive rains triggering flood again.

In Marikina City, Mayor Marcy Teodoro called for the help of the national government as many residents climbed their rooftops to get away from the rising water level. Several areas not previously flooded when there is a typhoon was reached by flood amid Ulysses.

Evacuation was done prior to the onslaught of Ulysses. However, certain unforeseen incidents took place that the 50 rubber boats of the LGU were not enough to rescue all those who needed help.

Catanduanes which was also hit by Rolly was struck by Ulysses. The latter triggered landslide and flooding in the province.

Cagayan province and Rizal were also flooded. Many residents went to their rooftops amid the wrath of Typhoon Ulysses as the water level rose. A lot of people now are in need of help after losing their homes and their source of income.

Several celebrities have organized donation drives for the typhoon victims. Many of them also shared personal donations to the victims in the different areas.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte declared a State of Calamity in Luzon following the wrath of Typhoon Ulysses. It left deaths and damages in structures including houses.

According to the report, the state of calamity declaration will allow the local government officials to use the emergency funds. Also, it will give LGUs the authority to implement a price freeze on the goods.

Pres. Duterte went on an aerial checking following the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses. He also flew to Cagayan Valley region which is one of the areas hit hard by the tropical storm.
