#WalangPasok: Month-Long Suspension of Classes Declared in Marikina

Mayor Marcy Teodoro Declares Suspension of Classes in Marikina For 1 Month

SUSPENSION OF CLASSES – Mayor Marcelino Teodoro suspended the classes in Marikina for a month following the impacts of Typhoon Ulysses.

Typhoon Ulysses has greatly affected several areas in the Philippines. In Catanduanes, it triggered landslide and flooding. The province was still recovering from Rolly when Ulysses struck it.

In Rizal and Cagayan, residents had to climb their rooftops to stay away from the increasing water level. Many people spent the night on top of their houses amid the onslaught of Ulysses.

The same fate that people had to climb their rooftops took place in Marikina City due to Ulysses. Areas that were not usually flooded when there are storms were reached by flood.

Mayor Marcy Teodoro even asked for help from the national government as the 50 rubber boats of the local government were not enough to rescue all the residents stuck in their rooftop.

Following the impacts of Typhoon Ulysses, Mayor Teodoro declared a month-long suspension of classes in Marikina. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the said suspension covers all levels.

The Marikina Mayor said that classes were suspended to give way for the rehabilitation of the city. Based on the report, he also stressed that it would be hard for some students as there are still areas with no electricity and internet connection following the wrath of Ulysses.

Some gadgets and learning modules of other students were also lost amid the flooding in the city. According to Mayor Teodoro, the suspension of classes may be extended if schools are still not ready for distance learning after one month.
