Rabiya Mateo shared her story about typhoon Yolanda
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo revealed that she is a Super Typhoon Yolanda survivor.
The said typhoon with international name Haiyan hit the Philippines in 2013. This disaster wrecked thousands of homes, buildings, and establishments. Crops were destroyed and even lives were taken.
That was indeed a devastating scenario and Rabiya has witnessed that. The Ilongga beauty queen revealed that she and her family also suffered from the calamity a few years ago.
Based on the article from The Philippine Star, Rabiya recalled her typhoon Yolanda experience. She said that she remembered how her mother cried after their kubo was destroyed back then. It is known to many that the beauty queen from Balasan, Iloilo really had a humble beginning as what people who knew her even before the national pageant revealed.
“Tapos nagsulat kami sa may kalsada na ‘We need help. We need food.’ Kaya sabi ko ngayon na may bagyong Rolly t’saka Ulysses, ramdam na ramdam ko po talaga ‘yung paghihirap ng mga kababayan natin,” Rabiya Mateo added.
Understanding the feeling of someone who experienced a strong typhoon, the Ilongga beauty queen did a fundraising campaign on her 24th birthday for the victims of typhoon Rolly and Ulysses.
She also stressed in an interview that the overused “Filipino Resiliency” phrase should be stopped. For the beauty queen, what the Filipino people really need are tangible and visible solutions to the problems.
To recall, even actress-singer Nadine Lustre also slammed the idea of glorifying resiliency amid this kind of calamity. She believes that expressing this kind of belief amid the crisis should end.
