Rabiya Mateo shared her thoughts on “Filipino resiliency”
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo has this reaction to the cliché “Filipino resiliency” and her statement went viral.
The said phrase has been used every single time that the Philippines is suffering from a certain calamity. Several prominent personalities in society have been using this also to make a statement, just like actress Angel Locsin.
She shared this line in her Instagram post for the recent typhoon Ulysses: “Our resilience will always be greater than any calamity! ” With this, there were netizens who slammed her post for allegedly pushing her hidden agenda through this and she was told to stop glorifying resiliencey.
On the other hand, Angel’s fellow actress Nadine Lustre spoke a different tune when it comes to “Filipino resiliency”. The actress-singer slammed the term and stressed that the country deserves better than this.
In the recent interview on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS), Rabiya Mateo also aired the same sentiments. She said that Filipino resiliency is overused to the point that people forgot to look at the problem and the solution.
For her, telling other people to have a positive mindset and overcome the problem is not enough. “Bet where are the tangible programs to help the people being affected by such situations?” she added.
The Ilongga beauty queen also stressed that there is nothing wrong in being positive but tangible and visible solutions are needed. “Hindi tayo mag-le-learn, hindi natin mapapabuti ang community natin if puro resiliency na lang,” Rabiya Mateo said.

Because of this, the name of the Miss Universe 2020 is one of the trending topics on Twitter on Monday, November 16.
