Netizens reacted to The Crown’s scene featuring Imelda Marcos
Former first lady Imelda Marcos was featured in a scene in Netflix’s The Crown in which her English accent was mocked and this received various reactions from netizens.
In the said scene, Princess Margaret and the royal family made fun of how the Pinay politician said the word “shoe”. The Princess was telling to the people she’s talking about her trip to the Philippines in 1980.
“So there we are in Manila, in the middle of a state banquet, when who barges into the room? None other than Imelda Marcos. She makes a beeline straight for me, saying she’s desperate to show me her… wait for it…” Princess Margaret said.
Her cousin Princess Ann finished her sentence by saying “shoe collection”. However, Princess Margaret corrected her, “Shell collection.” Queen Elizabeth ll answered that there was maybe something in her teeth when she said that.
Then, Prince Philip said, “She was probably trying to say shoe and you misunderstood her.” Prince Margaret answered, “No, I can assure you, it was seashells.”

In line with this, Filipino netizens on Twitter expressed various reactions. Some netizens said that they found the scene really funny while some expressed the shading brought by Princess Margaret.
There were also those who talked about the “shoe collection” of the former first lady. However, there were those who said that it was never right to make fun of any Filipino even if it’s Imelda Marcos. Here are some of the comments from netizens.
Netflix’s The Crown has not expressed if there is an accuracy in the portrayal of the said scene, however, it is true that Princess Margaret visited the Philippines in 1980.
