Polillo Island In Quezon Province Battered By COVID-19 And Typhoons
POLILLO ISLAND – Polillo Islands in Quezon province is calling for assistance after it was flogged by typhoons and COVID-19.
Polillo Mayor Cristina Encallado-Bosque added that the typhoon damaged houses, toppled trees and knocked down power lines, according to a report from ABS-CBN News.
“Kahit maraming damage, walang buhay ang nawala. Lahat po kami ay ligtas dito,”
Bosque said that her constituents were in need of relief goods and construction materials. The typhoon also affected the livelihood of fishermen, damaging their boats.
The island municipality is also fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic after having the most number of infections among the towns in the province.
As of the moment, there are 117 COVID-19 cases in the island, among them include 3 fatalities.
As the 21st tropical cyclone to enter the country this year 2020, Ulysses made 3 landfalls in Quezon on Thursday, based on the report.
Ulysses made landfall near Patnanungan at 10:30 PM, then near Burdeos at 11:20 PM and made its third landfall near General Nakar at 1:30 AM.
