A strong typhoon Rolly hit the Philippines this weekend and netizens recalled the ‘Yolanda’ incident of former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas.

During the administration of former President Noynoy Aquino, Roxas was appointed to lead the said department. However, he and the DILG received a massive amount of criticism after typhoon Yolanda hit the country in 2013.

There were allegations that the department did not handle the crisis well as it was alleged also that the funds for rehabilitation were not properly spent.

As the Philippines was facing typhoon Rolly, netizens have been talking Mar Roxas on Twitter because of the ‘Yolanda’ incident.

Those who are criticizing the administration are questioning what are the things that the office of the President is doing amid the current crisis. Several tweets are asking where is the leader now in the midst of the strong typhoon hitting the Bicol region.

On the other hand, there were tweets citing the past incident that involved the opposition and that was the time when Roxas was the DILG Secretary. There were even those who recalled his viral statement that said, “You have to remember, you are a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino.”

Meanwhile, TV host Korina Sanchez, the wife of Roxas, said in an interview last month that her husband is ready to retire from politics. He ran as president in 2016 under Liberal Pary of the Philippines, however, President Rodrigo Duterte won against him. Prior to that, Mar Roxas served as a Senator for several terms.
