Pakistan Bans TikTok Fearing Content May Corrupt Young Pakistanis

PAKISTAN BANS TIKTOK – It seems like Pakistan is walking the walk and talking the talk when it came to banning TikTok, unlike the United States.

Earlier in the year, there were several talks in the US regarding the potential ban of TikTok in the country. But since then, TikTok has remained more prevalent than ever in the US.

Meanwhile, across the globe, Pakistan decided to outright ban the content-sharing platform for being promoting “immoral” content. Naturally, there are some raunchy clips out there circulating the platform. But, due to cultural differences, some may find these inappropriate.

TikTok, the Chinese-based powerhouse of a social platform has long since dominated the content-sharing industry. However, due to Pakistan’s ultra-conservative Islamic culture, it decided to block the app and its content.

According to a statement by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), TikTok failed to comply with two warnings: blocking “immoral, obscene and vulgar” content.

The application failed to fully comply with the instructions, therefore, directions were issued for blocking of TikTok application in the country

As such, Pakistan banned TikTok since Friday evening. Among the reasons for the ban were complaints of exploitation of young children on the platform.

But, some groups in Pakistan view the ban of the app as a violation of freedom of speech. Meanwhile, some users even likened the blocking of the app to “losing someone from their family”.

India also banned TikTok in addition to dozens of Chinese mobile apps. This comes after reports of Chinese apps allegedly stealing private data of users without consent.
