Roque Says Pres. Duterte Not Into Stopping Facebook from Operating in the Philippines
ROQUE – Presidential spokesman Harry Roque spoke on the plan of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte over the issue with Facebook.
A lot of people in the Philippines and as well as abroad got Facebook accounts. It is one of the social media giants that operates in the different parts of the country for several years now.
People turn to Facebook for communication with others who are miles away, entertainment, business advertisements, information, and a lot more. However, undeniably, there are also those who use it with erring behaviors.
Recently, the social media platform removed pages based on their behaviors. Those taken down includes some “government advocacy” pages in the Philippines.

The taking down of the said pages caught the attention of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. In his recent late-night televised address, he expressed his disappointment over the deletion of the “government advocacy” pages.
The President stressed that the online platform was allowed in the country so it can be a help to the government, he questioned the existence of then social media platform if it cannot help the government.
The issue sparked different reactions from the people. Undeniably, a lot of people are worried that the social media platform will be banned.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has no plan of banning Facebook in the Philippines. According to him, the President just want to talk with the people behind the social media giant over the matter.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Roque believes that Facebook will not be banned in the country although the Palace sees the move of the social media platform as “censorship”.
Reportedly, the government may come up with its team of fact-checkers. More updates may be posted soon.
