Regine Velasquez Speaks on Shutdown of ABS-CBN Network
REGINE VELASQUEZ – The Philippines’ Asia’s Songbird revealed her side on the ABS-CBN shutdown two years after her network transfer.
A lot of unexpected things took place this 2020 and one of it is the shutdown of the ABS-CBN, one of the biggest broadcasting networks in the Philippines. It has aired for decades already.
More than three months ago, the franchise of the Kapamilya network reached its expiry date. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) issued a Cease and Desist Order against the network.
Following the network’s broadcasting operation going off-air, thirteen hearings were held to discuss the issues against the network. It was followed by the members of the House Franchise Committee voting on whether or not to deny the network of a fresh 25-year franchise.
ABS-CBN did not get the result that would favor its side. Seventy (70) lawmakers voted to deny the network of a new franchise and only 11 were on the other side of it.

One of the Kapuso celebrities who has been with GMA-7 for decades and transferred to ABS-CBN a few years ago is singer-actress Regine Velasquez. It was in 2018 when she joined her husband, Ogie Alcasid, in the Kapamilya network.
Recently, in a virtual interview on #LivewithG3, Regine Velasquez revealed her side on the shutdown of ABS-CBN 2 years after she transferred to the network.
According to the Philippines’ Asia’s Songbird, she does not regret her decision to return to ABS-CBN because she experienced a lot before the network shutdown.
“I wanted to experience something else, something new… Marami naman akong nagawa,” she said.
During the vlog interview, Regine Velasquez stressed that under the ABS-CBN network, she was able to maximize her singing as she is doing ASAP weekly. That’s what her heart misses when she was with GMA-7 as the SOP lasted until 2010 only.
Regine clarified that she is in good terms with GMA-7 and many people in the Kapuso network are not only friends but already a family to her. She’s been with the Kapuso network for 20 years.
