College Student Jokingly Rides Carabao to School Due to Surging Fuel Prices
A female college student amused many netizens after she jokingly rode a carabao due to the increase in petroleum prices.
The student, Cristel Mendoza, normally travels to school using her motorcycle. However, after hearing about the latest fuel price increase, she and her family thought of making a lighthearted video for fun. The idea came while she was preparing to leave for school one day.
According to Mendoza, the moment felt perfect because her father was also about to use their carabao to pull harvested rice. Seeing the animal nearby gave them the idea to film a short and funny video.

In the video, she jokingly appeared to ride a carabao-drawn cart as an alternative way of going to school instead of using her motorcycle. The video immediately spread like wildfire on social media and elicited comments from the internet users.
Although the video was meant for entertainment, Mendoza also shared that the increase in fuel prices has a real effect on students like her who rely on motorcycles or other vehicles to get to school.
When gasoline becomes more expensive, she has to adjust her daily expenses and carefully manage her allowance. The higher fuel cost means making changes to her budget so she can still cover transportation and other school needs.

Like many students, she tries to balance her expenses while continuing her studies.
Meanwhile, the Department of Energy reported that fuel prices are expected to increase. Gasoline may rise by around P7-13 per liter, while diesel could increase by as much as P17-24 per liter starting March 10.
The increase is linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has affected global oil prices.
