Phivolcs Says 6 Volcanic Earthquakes Recorded Around Taal Volcano
The state seismology agency Phivolcs reported that six volcanic earthquakes have been recorded around Taal Volcano.
On Friday (September 25, 2020), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that at least six volcanic earthquakes have been recorded around Mount Taal. The agency described the situation as ‘abnormal’.
Phivolcs said that the volcano reportedly generates the volcanic earthquake in the past 24-hour observation period. Taal remains under Alert Level 1, which is considered under an abnormal state.
The volcano reportedly generates weak steaming or fumarolic activity rising five meters aside from the quakes.
The volcanology agency reminded the public that Taal could still produce sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas under alert level 1.
The state agency also advised the residents near the vicinities of the Main Crater and the Daang Kastila fissure that entry into the Taal’s Permanent Danger Zone and Taal Volcano Island remain strictly prohibited.
