Two Vendors Nabbed For Selling Bayawaks In Pampanga

BAYAWAKS IN PAMPANGA – Two vendors in Pampanga were arrested after they were caught illegally selling bayawaks in Pampanga.

The suspects sold bayawaks or monitor lizards for P300 to P900 depending on the size, according to a report from GMA News’ Balitambayan.

The lizards were said to have been taken from a fishery and had their teeth taken out.

Authorities from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) -Region III rescued 11 lizards from the suspects.

The lizards were taken to Clark, Pampanga for rehabilitation before they will be set free.

Based on the report, selling, catching and petting bayawaks are considered illegal since the species are among the threatened species. The suspects made no further statement.
