IATF Says No More Home Quarantine For COVID-19 Patients
HOME QUARANTINE – The Interagency Task Force (IATF) strictly disallows home quarantine of COVID-19 patients following a spike in infections.
As the number of locally stranded individuals entering their respective provinces grew, so did the number of local transmissions in some areas. Because of this, the IATF attributed some of these cases to the unmonitored home quarantine of COVID-19 patients.
In lieu of this, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año announced that they would strictly implement the no home quarantine policy within the week. According to an article from Inquirer, the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Interior and Local Government allowing home quarantine for mild and asymptomatic cases, along with those with no underlying conditions with their own rooms and bathrooms would be amended as per the new policy.
Furthermore, Año stated that everybody would now be isolated. He asserted that both rich and poor should be subject to isolation if found positive for COVID-19. Along with this, he pointed out that the government had already converted some hotels into isolation centers.
As per the article, Año said:
“We have COVID-19 hotels where they can be isolated,” he said. “[I]t is very important to get them out of their homes because their family will be infected. That is for the good, for the sake of family member“.
Recently, an expert from the University of the Philippines said that the Philippines has begun to flatten the coronavirus curve. However, he emphasized that the public shouldn’t celebrate just yet.
However, with the new policy on home quarantine being in play, experts believe that this would drastically help prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially at a community level.
