DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte jokingly invited Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III to a vacation in the Spratly Island.

One of the names dragged in the corruption issues surrounding the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. is the name of DOH Sec. Francisco Duque III. PhilHealth is under his Department.

The issues came after a former official of PhilHealth threw allegations that corruption is happening inside the body. It was abruptly put down by then PhilHealth Chief Ricardo Morales.

The authorities lodged a probe on the said corruption issues. Several executive members of PhilHealth signed a bank secrecy waiver that will allow the authorities to check on their bank accounts.

Amid the corruption issues, the Senators suggested the filing of graft and corruption cases against DOH Sec. Francisco Duque and the officials of PhilHealth. Morales has already resigned from his post.

In the recent COVID-19 briefing, the DOH Chief expressed his frustration over the matter. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he tagged the suggested filing of charges as “injustice”.

“‘Yung mga pumirma, hindi ni-recommend for filing of the cases. Iyong hindi pumirma, ‘yon lang ang idinawit,” Duque told the President.

During the televised national address, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte reiterated his trust to DOH Sec. Francisco Duque III. Based on the report, the Chief Executive even jested and invited him for a vacation in the disputed Spratly Island.

“Maybe we will visit Spratly. But we will also invite the Americans to come along. We’re going to a sight-seeing tour,” the President expressed.

Several countries are claiming ownership in the said island. The two notable nations claiming it are PH and China.
