PH Senator Cynthia Villar clarifies her statement following backlash online.
CYNTHIA VILLAR – Politician and businesswoman Cynthia Villar clarifies her statement over frontliners’ plea for a stricter ECQ in Metro Manila.
Hitting it again, Senator Cynthia Villar earned backlash and criticisms online on controversial comment about the frontliners pleading for the government to return Manila in a stricter community quarantine. This is to contain the spread of the virus as the number of positive cases in the country has reached over 100,000.
This another “insensitive” and “out-of-touch” remark against a particular sector amid the coronavirus pandemic has made netizens doubt if she got this grudge at them. She said, “Hindi na siguro. Pagbutihin nila trabaho nila.”
To recall, this is not the first time that she had an issue with professionals from the medical field. To recall, she once expressed this insulting statement against nurses, “NURSE lang yan hindi nila kailangan maging magaling.”
And now, the medical frontliners asking and pleading for a timeout due to worsening situation of the country, the senator just told them to just do their jobs well. With the backlash, the senator clarified and defended her statement.
Written in her statement, it indicated that she was not accordingly referring to the medical frontliners particularly. According to PEP, it has indicated, “We are referring to all of us and DOH and Philhealth in particular. There is so much room for improvement in the government’s response to curb the transmission of the disease.”
Moreover, she is aware of the significance of medical workers in this time of pandemic. She recognized their sacrifices and the dangers of their work by putting their own lives on the line as per article.
