Duterte SONA 2020 Won’t Include Submission of 2021 National Budget
DUTERTE SONA 2020 – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte won’t submit the national budget proposal for year 2021 during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) today, July 27.
Today, the 5th State of the Nation Address or more commonly called as SONA of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte will take place. It will be held at Batasang Pambansa this afternoon.
Unlike the previous SONAs of Pres. Duterte and other former presidents, the attendees and guests would be limited. It is due to the COVID-19 pandemic now in which gatherings are prohibited.
In fact, separate chambers were prepared to divide the attendees who will be going to Batasang Pambansa this afternoon for Pres. Duterte’s national address. Also, the President will be in a separate chamber for safety.

Previously, it was reported that Pres. Duterte will present the COVID-19 recovery plan during his 5th SONA today. This pandemic brought a lot of changes not only to the Philippines but to over 200 nations and territories across the globe.
During the SONA, the President usually discusses the achievements and aspirations of the administration. Updates on the staunch campaigns of the government and the budget may also be talked about.
With regard to the proposed 2021 national budget, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Budget and Management is not done finalizing it. Thus, Pres. Duterte won’t be submitting it to Congress during the Duterte SONA 2020.
According to the report, Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado said that the DBM is still finalizing the plan on the spending of next year’s budget. It is at P4.3 trillion.
Avisado told ABS-CBN, the Department has until August 27 to submit the 2021 national budget proposal. The DBM Secretary revealed that the government will focus in addressing the unemployment problem due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A lot of people await the SONA 2020. Senator Kiko Pangilinan has expectations for the said national address that is set to take place today.
