Amid the lockdown, the electric company has received an enormous amount of criticisms from its consumer due to the increase in electricity bills. Netizens and consumers called out the attention of the company to address this matter.

In a previous report, Meralco explained that the enhanced community quarantine is a factor why there is an increase in electricity consumption as most of the people are just staying at home.

According to Joe Zaldarriaga, the spokesperson of Meralco, summertime also increased people’s consumption of electricity with the use of air conditioning units and electric fans.

Amid the lockdown, SMC has been doing charitable endeavors such as its initiative to bring back the “nutribun” in order to provide food to depressed areas. Aside from this, the company also distributed poultry products to less fortunate Pinoys amid the pandemic.

In order to help the health sector, SMC also donated 10 quarantine facilities to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Because of this post from the Senate President, several netizens also aired their grievances against Meralco. A netizen even shared that a house near them which is unoccupied for 6 months now received a bill with the amount of P2,800.
