P1.7M Meralco Bill – The Manila Electric Company is set to file charges against a netizen who claimed that the bill of his friend reached P1.773 million in a single household.

Based on a previous report, netizen Joven Salarda shared a photo showing the electricity bill of his friend has reached the amount of P1,773,511.55. This brought shock to the online community as it is very unusual for a single household to have that consumption of electricity for just a month.

Scheduled Power Interruption

In a recent report from CNN Philippines, Meralco addressed the issue regarding the high electricity bills for the month of May. The company explained that a steeper rise to the amount will be noticed this month because the March and April bills were based on the consumers’ consumption from the month of December 2019 to January and February 2020.

Joe Zaldarriaga, the spokesperson of the electric company stated that the enhanced community quarantine has affected the high consumption as most of the people are just at home. He added that the heat is a factor also as people are using more air conditioning units and electric fans.

The May bill is a result of the actual kWh Consumption from the current meter reading, with adjustments already reflected from the previous estimated consumption. This total, which is already based on the true and actual readings, is what customers actually see in the May bill. That is why you may notice a rise in the total amount due,” the spokesperson said.

Based on the report, the said account has 1,364 services assigned to it. Meralco will file complaints to National Bureau Investigation’s Cybercrime Division and to Anti-Cybercrime Unit of the Philippine National Police for violation of the cybercrime law.
