71-Year-Old Grandmother Finally Earns Her College Diploma
At 71 years old grandmother in Negros Occidental finally earned her college diploma after years of putting her goals on hold.

Recently, Lucy Gonzaga or known as Nanay Lucy has proven that it’s never too late to chase a dream. Nanay Lucy, who lives in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, first stopped schooling in 1964 after finishing elementary.
Due to poverty, she was unable to continue high school. Life brought its own challenges, and she spent many years focusing on her family instead of her education.

But in 2011, at the age of 57, she decided to return to school. Though the journey wasn’t easy and there were times she had to pause her studies, she kept going. In 2019, she proudly completed senior high school.
That same year, her husband, a jeepney driver, passed away. Using his P2,500 monthly pension, Nanay Lucy supported her education while dealing with the pain of her loss.
Finally, in June 2025, she achieved what once seemed impossible, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries.
Now, her goal is to work at Sagay City Hall and give back to her community using what she has learned. Her journey proves that age should never be seen as a barrier.
