Update on OFWs in Saudi Arabia Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic
OFWs – Three (3) overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia who contracted COVID-19 suspectedly from their employer are seeking help.
Several countries across the globe now have confirmed cases of coronavirus or COVID-19. This disease was already declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The COVID-19 was first recorded in China way back December 2019. This disease is characterized by flu-like symptoms including fever, breathing difficulties, and cough.

This disease is a novel coronavirus. Much of it is not yet known and studies are ongoing. A person may also be positive for the disease even without any signs at all.
One of the countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19 is Saudi Arabia. It has already recorded a total of 164,144 cases of the said disease and over 1,300 patients died because of it.
Saudi Arabia is one of the countries where there are a lot of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Recently, three (3) Pinays are seeking help after they contracted COVID-19. Suspectedly, they got the disease from their employer who is positive for coronavirus.
Based on a report on GMA Network’s Balitambayan, the three (3) OFWs were placed in a stockroom with no aircon. One of them is already panicking while the two (2) were trying to calm her.
According to the report, through Unang Hirit, the situation of the three (3) Pinays have already reached Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Chief Hans Leo Cacdac.
According to the OWWA Chief, an action to pull out the Pinay workers in Riyadh must be done and they must be brought to medical authorities. Currently, no help has reached them yet.
