Canada To Provide Aid To Philippines For COVID-19 Fight
CANADA – The Canadian government vowed to give Php 44.5 million to the Philippines as assistance amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 200 countries and territories across the globe now are fighting against a common invisible enemy – the COVID-19. Cases of this coronavirus were first recorded in China last December 2019.
Wuhan City, the epicenter of the disease in China, was locked for more than two (2) months. The coronvirus has infected over 82,000 people in the country and at least 4,000 lost their lives due to the disease.
Unfortunately, starting January 2020, several other countries reported cases of the disease. It continued and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it as pandemic as its effect is far beyond what was expected of it.
Among the countries with confirmed cases of the disease are the Philippines and Canada. Both nations are fighting against the spread of the disease now.
The Canadian authorities have recorded 96,653 cases of the disease according to Worldometer. Based on the global tally, 7,897 of the said coronavirus patients in Canada died while 55,572 patients have recovered.
With regards to the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health (DOH), there is now a total of 22,992 cases of coronavirus recorded in the country. The death toll and the total recoveries are at 1,017 and 4,736, respectively.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada wants to help the Philippines on the fight against the disease. Based on a report of ABS-CBN News, the Canadian government committed to giving Php 44.5 million assistance for PH’s fight against coronavirus.
According to the report, PH received 120,000 N95 face masks from the Canadian country. It is worth Php 29.5 million which is included in the Php P167-million assistance extended by the country to six (6) other Southeast Asian countries.
In a statement, the Canadian Embassy stated that COVID-19 can only be won through “coordinated action around the world”. It is “pleased” to be fighting the pandemic hand-in-hand with PH.
