Official of Sulu COVID-19 Task Force Confirms Province Recorded Its 2nd Coronavirus Case

SULU – An official of the COVID-19 Task Force confirmed that the province recorded its 2nd case of coronavirus.

The coronavirus or COVID-19 has affected over 200 nations and territories across the globe. One of its is the Philippines which has recorded 22,474 cases of the disease now.

Out of the 22,474 COVID-19 cases recorded in the country, 1,011 patients died while 4,637 have recovered from the disease. The war against it is not yet over despite the recent loosening of the quarantine measures.

Starting June 1, the high-risk areas are under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Most areas in the country, those considered as low and medium risk, are under a Modified GCQ now.

One of the areas in the Philippines under a Modified GCQ is Sulu. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the province recently recorded its 2nd case of coronavirus.

Provincial COVID1- Task Force spokesperson Jainab Abdulmajid confirmed that a 28-year-old man tested positive for the disease. He is a returning Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW).

According to the COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson, the patient arrived in Manila last May 20 and was tested for coronavirus. The result was negative.

On May 27, the patient, through a sweeper flight arranged by the government for returning OFWs, traveled to Zamboanga. He stayed in a local motel in Barangay Putik in the city.

Based on the report, the 28-year-old man stayed in the motel for five (5) days along with 17 other OFWs. On May 31, the man arrived in Jolo via a commercial vessel.

The local government of Sulu has prepared a facility for the returning OFWs. The patient stayed in the facility and his swab samples were taken after (4) days. After another four (4) days, the result was released and he is positive coronavirus.

The patient is asymptomatic. A tracing of the people he had a contact with is ongoing now. Reportedly, on June 15, he will be tested for COVID-19 again.
