New Zealand Won Against Coronavirus – Zero Cases Left

NEW ZEALAND WON AGAINST CORONAVIRUS – New Zealand had officially eradicated the coronavirus in their country as they cleared their last COVID-19 patient.

Much like the game Plague Inc, New Zealand had become the first country to eliminate the virus. This feat has become a milestone in the battle against COVID-19.

According to Ashley Bloomfield, New Zealand’s health department director-general stated:

Having no active cases for the first time since February 28 is certainly a significant mark in our journey but, as we’ve previously said, ongoing vigilance against COVID-19 will continue to be essential,

New Zealand was vigilant amid reports of local transmissions. Following the first few cases, they immediately began a strict seven-week lockdown that was lifted after the virus was contained.

The country received well-deserved praise for their efforts. Of the five million residents of New Zealand, only 1,154 were found positive for COVID-19 with 22 deaths. There have been zero new cases for 17 days and the last active case was cleared.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, the country’s health department stated:

The remaining case has been symptom-free for 48 hours and is regarded as recovered. The person has now been released from isolation

Following this, Prime Minister Jacina Ardern is expected to announce that New Zealand would lift the lockdown to alert level 1. This would be the lowest alert level on its four-tier virus response.
