Occidental Mindoro Hit by Earthquake with 5.1 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.1 magnitude quake in Occidental Mindoro, June 6.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Occidental Mindoro. At 09:37 pm, June 6, 2020, Calintaan was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 12.71°North, 121.02°East – 017 km North 32° East of Calintaan. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 010 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in a bulletin that there are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks. The following intensities were recorded of the said quake:
- Intensity IV
- Calintaan, and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
- Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity III
- Santa Cruz, Occidental Mindoro
- Bansud, Mansalay and City of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro
- Odiongan, and San Agustin, Romblon
- Ibajay, Malay, and Nabas, Aklan
- Boac, Marinduque
- Intensity II
- Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro
- Malinao, Numancia, and Tangalan, Aklan
