Update on DepEd School Enrollment Amid Remote Registration Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

DEPED – The Department of Education released an update on the school enrollment amid the remote registration.

Classes are among the things affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. Schools that have yet to wrap up their school calendar for 2019-2020 had to suspend classes as everyone is advised to stay at home.

The said disease has already infected 20,626 people in the country. According to the Department of Health (DOH), 987 of the patients died while 4,330 have recovered from the disease.

Supposedly, classes under the Department of Education has already started this June. However, there is still a huge risk in gathering students to schools as the pandemic is not yet over.

The opening of the classes was moved from June to August 24. Currently, a remote registration of the students is ongoing. It is a month-long registration but this time students need not to go to their schools to enroll.

Recently, DepEd gave an update on the school enrollment amid the ongoing remote registration. Based on a report of Inquirer, the Education Department said that almost six (6) million students have enrolled in public and private schools during the first week of registration.

Specifically, there is a total of 5,995,962 enrollees. The Calabarzon recorded the highest number of enrollees at 1,283,358. In Metro Manila, 680,493 students have enrolled.

According to the report, remote registration will be implemented in the first two (2) weeks of enrollment. On the third week of enrollment, physical enrollment may be allowed but it must be in coordination with the local government unit.

With regards to the teaching methods, previously, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones expressed that schools may utilize methods that prevent physical interaction among students. Printed modules and online classes may be offered.
