Pres. Duterte Speaks On COVID-19 Cases in PH Following Easing of Quarantine Protocols

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke on the possible move in case the COVID-19 cases in the country will increase.

More than 200 countries and territories are dealing with COVID-19 outbreak nowadays. One of these nations with confirmed cases of the said coronavirus is the Philippines.

In PH, there is now a total of 12,942 cases of the said disease. According to the Department of Health (DOH), 837 of these patients died while 2,843 have recovered from it.

Starting May 1, the quarantine protocol in some areas were eased. Only a few areas were left under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Cebu City, Metro Manila, and the province of Laguna are under an MECQ now. The Palace placed the entire country except for those areas under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

Every Monday, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte holds a press briefing regarding COVID-19. In the latest press briefing, the President expressed the possible move that he is willing to take in case the COVID-19 cases will increase.

Undeniably, several shopping malls and public places in the different areas were crowded by people following the easing down of the quarantine protocols. It is quite contrary to the fear of a 2nd wave of the virus.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Duterte is willing to implement again the “original program” or the previous quarantine measures in case there will be a surge of infection. According to the President, there is a gradual opening to check on which things may be allowed or not.

“If the contamination will be as fast as before, and it will continue to infect iyong mga nakalabas na, then we will just go back to the original program,” he said according to the report.

The President reminded that the easing down of the quarantine protocols do not mean that COVID-19 is gone. He stressed that the virus is not gone until there is a vaccine.

According to him, he is now looking for money to buy the vaccine once it is available. He noted that other countries are already close to developing the vaccine.
