Palace: 23 Barangay Officials Charged For Graft And Corruption

BARANGAY OFFICIALS – The Malacañang Palacesaid that 23 barangay officials will be charged for alleged anomalies in cash aid distribution.

According to ABS-CBN News, among the anomalies include splitting the money, getting a cut, and flsifying the list of beneficiaries.

In the next few days, four more cases will be filed while 110 more are now under case buildup of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, according to Presidential spokesman Harry Roque.

DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya earlier said that about 44 mayors were asked to explain the slow distribution of cash aid.

Malaya added that citizens will receive ₱30,000 reward should they report any instances of graft and corruption.

Graft and corruption will be filed against erring officials who were caught for any anomalies in distributing cash aid.

As per the report, there are about ₱200 billion that was allotted by the government to for emergency subsidies of ₱5,000 up to ₱8,000 for poor families for April and MAy. This is in order to aid them during the COVID-19 threat.

More than 18 million families received financial aid from the program.
