“Philippines, Province of China” Now A Check In Location On Facebook & IG

FACEBOOK – “Philippines, Province of China” is now a check-in location on Facebook and Instagram.

China has ignored the South China Sea tribunal decision. The Chinese government even launched new facilities in the disputed shoals amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Senator Risa Hontiveros said previously that China should shoulder the Philippines’ COVID-19 response. The politician said their payment will amend the damages they caused in the West Philippine Sea.

In a previous article, Risa Hontiveros also accused the government-owned radio station ‘Radyo Pilipinas 738 of airing Chinese propaganda. She wanted the program to be canceled immediately.

“PCOO should be fulfilling its mandate of helping the Filipino people with relevant and timely information, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic. But instead, it is allowing a program that promotes China and its state ideology,” she said.

On Friday, May 15, Daily Guardian shared a screenshot on their Facebook Page confirming that social media platforms Instagram and Facebook now included “Philippines, Province of China” as check-in locations. In the caption, they explained that it is now available through Geotagging.

“These options become available through Geotagging. Geotagging is the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as a geotagged photograph or video, websites, SMS messages, QR Codes or RSS feeds and is a form of geospatial metadata,” it wrote.

The hashtag Province of China became one of the trending topics on Twitter. Filipino netizens were furious after seeing that social media platforms have this new check-in location. Here are some of their comments:
