Governor Chiz Escudero Confirms Details of Sorsogon’s 1st Case of COVID-19
Governor Chiz Escudero confirmed that the province of Sorsogon has recorded its first case of coronavirus or COVID-19.
Several areas in the Philippines were placed under community quarantine measures due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Previously, the entire Luzon was under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).
Local government units in Visayas and Mindanao also implemented an ECQ in their provinces and cities. It is in the pursuit to curb the spread of the disease.
As per the recommendation of the National Inter-Agency Task Force against COVID-19, only the high-risk areas were under the ECQ starting May 1. Those that are considered as low and medium risk for COVID-19 were placed under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
Both the ECQ and GCQ measures will expire today, May 15. Yesterday, the Palace announced that all areas except for Metro Manila, Laguna province, and Cebu City will be under a GCQ starting May 16. The areas specified will be under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
The battle against coronavirus in the Philippines and in the whole world is not yet over. In PH, there is now a total of 11,876 cases of COVID-19 recorded in the different parts of the country.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), 790 of these coronavirus patients died of the disease. With regards to the recoveries, 2,337 patients won the battle against the disease.
The fight against COVID-19 continues. Recently, another province, Sorsogon, recorded its first case of coronavirus. It was confirmed by Governor Chiz Escudero.
Through social media posts, Governor Chiz Escudero stated that the first COVID-19 case in Sorsogon is a 37-year-old seaman, Romegio Cruz. He was from Miami, Florida.
According to the Governor, Cruz was immediately quarantined at Matnog Quarantine Facility upon his arrival. He’s showing no symptoms and was, later on, transferred to Sorsogon Provincial Hospital.
The patient is now admitted in the ward section of the hospital. Gov. Escudero assured the implementation of protocols in handling a COVID-19 case.
