Cayetano Breaks Silence On Shutdown of ABS-CBN

CAYETANO – House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano finally gave a statement regarding the closure of the ABS-CBN network.

ABS-CBN went off the air on Tuesday, May 5 following the cease and desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC). The largest tv network in the Philippines stopped broadcasting at 7:46 pm.

Kapamilya network’s loyal viewers and talent expressed their disappointment and rage on their social media accounts. Some fans even destroyed their television saying it’s now useless because there’s no tv network that can top ABS-CBN’s shows.

Rep. Jose Salceda said ABS-CBN’s closure could lead to more coronavirus infections because people will now prefer to go outside their homes than watch other tv network’s programs. He said NTC should have planned it thoroughly before issuing the closure orders amid the pandemic.

Buhay party-list Representative Lito Atienza blamed Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano for the media network’s closure. He said most of the members of the House of the representatives failed to do their job amid the company’s franchise issue.

“I’d like to say squarely, kasalanan ni Speaker Cayetano ito. Pagkukulang niya ito sa bayan… He will have a lot to explain one day. It may not be today, but later on this issue will hound him because he is the one who did not do his job,” said Atienza.
