Amid the COVID-19 crisis, the teachers, parents, and students are curious with regards to the enrollment dates for the next school year of elementary and secondary schools. To this, the Department of Education (DepEd) broke its silence.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DepEd is still consulting the schools and the parents with regards to the enrollment dates for the next school year. Education Secretary Leonor Briones expressed that some groups want it moved to August.

Briones previously tested positive for the disease. Fortunately, the Education Secretary is now COVID-free.

Based on the report, speaking to DZMM, Briones expressed that they have yet to decide with regards to the next school enrollment as if it will be moved in August, the end of the school year may reach the summer season.

“Aabutin ng kasagsagan ng init at hindi naman lahat ng school buildings natin handa sa matinding init at kasagsagan ng maraming summer diseases ng mga bata,” the Education Secretary expressed.

According to Briones, they are hopeful that they will have a decision on the enrollment dates by the end of April. If the crisis will continue prompting the class suspension, a “continuity learning part” may be implemented according to Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
