Answers To The Question: “What Is Sipnayan”
WHAT IS SIPNAYAN? – The Filipino are a proud race with a diverse and deep-rooted culture that traces back centuries.
As such, a system or form of language was used by the natives. Before, natives used what is now called as “lumang Tagalog”. However, in 1973, the language was replaced with Filipino.

The “Lumang Tagalog” was mostly derived from the Bulakenyo Language or what linguist believe to be “Purong Tagalog” or “Pure Tagalog”.
As such, the word “Sipnayan” came from this language meaning “Mathematics“. Furthermore, this word is a combination of two word “isip + hanayan”. For the most part, “hanayan” is used as a suffix for branches of science such as physics and biology.
Mathematics or “Matematika” in the modern Tagalog Language is a branch of science that relates to the use of numbers, formulas, and theories to make sense of the world.
Other “lumang Tagalog” words related to this are:
- Liknayan (Likas-Hanayan) – Physics
- Kapnayan (Sangkap-Hanayan) – Chemistry
- Haynayan (Buhay-Hanayan) – Biology
The “Lumang Tagalog” Language though not commonly used, should be preserved as it serves as a reminder and a connection to the rich heritage the Philippines and its people have.
