And now, amid the COVID crisis and the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine as declared by President Rodrigo Duterte, there have been reports that it will be extended. Also, there are other reports that erupted which states that the country will be under military control as we combat the contagious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

With all these reports making their way online and circulating through various social media sites, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles says on Friday, March 27, that these are all fake news. He also reminded people to be vigilant and smart when it comes to reports like this.

This is because that all official announcements in line with the critical crisis brought about by COVID must come from the president of the country, the Department of Health (DOH), and the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Diseases.

He clarified in his interview in Dobol B sa News TV that it is not true that the enhanced community quarantine will be extended pass April 12, the country under military control, and that public markets will be closed. Nograles indicated, “Gusto ko linawin, lahat ‘yan fake news. Huwag tayo maniwala sa fake news na ‘yan. Wala tayong ina-announce na any extension [ng quarantine]. Gusto nga natin mapabilis ito.”

According to GMA report, the National Bureau of Investigation and the police are doing their best and working overtime to trace the roots of these who spread fake news as it is accordingly not good already. All these fake news can only cause fear to the public.
