1 of 49 Coronavirus Patients Is Negros Oriental Town Councilor

NEGROS ORIENTAL TOWN COUNCILOR – A councilor in the province of Negros Oriental tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus.

Several local government units (LGus) in the Philippines got confirmed cases of coronavirus in their areas. Mayors took the lead to inform the public about for precautionary measures.

Quezon City has five (5) confirmed cases of the disease as revealed by Mayor Joy Belmonte. Other LGUs which recorded confirmed cases of COVID-19 include Marikina and Pasig cities.

In the Visayas region, recently, a city mayor revealed that a Negros Oriental town councilor tested positive for coronavirus. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Remollo confirmed that one (1) of the 49 confirmed coronavirus cases in PH is a councilor from the province.

According to Mayor Remollo, the said 62-year-old councilor has recently visited Manila to attend the Philippine Councilors League. It was held from February 28 to March 1.

Based on the report, the Negros Oriental town councilor who tested positive for coronavirus has also visited Barangay Greenhills in San Juan. It was in March 7 when he was confined in a private hospital in Dumaguete.

The City Mayor added that the councilor was transferred to another hospital upon the request of his family. He revealed that the patient had a kidney transplant which may compromise his health.

Mayor Remollo affirmed that around 20 personnel in the first hospital where the councilor was confined are under quarantine now. Based on the report, the tracing of those he had a contact with is also ongoing.

The City Mayor said he will not put Dumaguete under a lock-down. He calls out to his constituents to implement proper hygiene and social distancing.
