Coronavirus Prompts Suspension of Grab Philippines’ Ride-sharing Services
GRAB PHILIPPINES – Ridesharing company Grab Philippines said that it will suspend its GrabShare services due to the coronavirus outbreak.
On Wednesday, the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic. Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also placed the county in a state of public health emergency amid the coronavirus outbreak. There are now 118,000 cases of COVID-19 is over 120 countries around the world.
Tv networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 recently announced that they won’t be accepting live studio audience to stop the spread of the deadly virus from China. The county now has 49 confirmed cases, including 2 deaths.
Two lawmakers suggested to put Metro Manila under lockdown as coronavirus spreads. However, President Duterte rejected their appeal saying it’s too early to lock down the city.
Based on a report from GMA News, the management of Grab Philippines announced that they are going to temporarily suspend their ride-sharing service starting March 13, 2020. It’s their preventive measure to combat the coronavirus disease.
According to the report, Grab Philippines’ GrabShare services will not be available in Metro Manila and Cebu starting Friday at 12:00 noon. The temporary suspension of their service is their way to help in the social distancing prescribed by the country’s health officials.
“Other Grab transport services will remain to be available to serve our commuting public… we would like to remind everyone to plan their trips prudently and take personal hygiene seriously,” the company said.
