Vessels from China, Macau & Hong Kong May Now Dock in Any Port in Bacolod City

VESSELS FROM CHINA – Bacolod City Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia announced that ships from China, Hong Kong, and Macau are now allowed to dock in any port in the city.

Both the national and the local governments now are implementing measures to contain the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus. The Department of Health (DOH) is also tirelessly working in the field and monitoring the suspected cases.

In line with the said global concern nowadays, Mayor Bing Leonardia of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental has ordered the banning of any vessel from China, Hong Kong, and Macau to dock in the ports in the city. Currently, it has already been lifted.

Based on a report on Manila Bulletin, Mayor Bing Leonardia announced that vessels from China, Hong Kong, and Macau may now dock in any port in Bacolod. It is after the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) overruled his order.

In a letter, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año acknowledged appreciation on the efforts of Mayor Leonardia to protect his people. However, according to the Interior Secretary, his move contradicts the recent issuance of the DOH.

The DOH issued guidelines to all seaports over the coronavirus spread. Based on the report, Año stressed that the City Mayor must follow the directive.

On the part of Mayor Leonardia, he said that the he and the people of Bacolod have “no choice but to follow orders”. Meanwhile, he assured that stricter guidelines are implemented now.
